10th-12th Grade Summer Reading
Getting Started
Since the focus is reading for pleasure, we’re encouraging you to choose any text – any type – by any author – on any topic – of interest to you. The goal is simply to immerse yourself in the experience. You aren’t limited to fiction – nonfiction or informational texts, graphic novels, etc. are all great options as well.
So the choice is up to you.

Other lists that might provide ideas:
English 10 Honors
All students will read J.D. Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye and be prepared to discuss the book upon returning to school in the fall.
English 11 Honors
All students will read John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men and Jennifer Longo's What I Carry. Be prepared to discuss the dream each respective character embraces.
All students also will read any other book of their choice.
Advanced Placement 11
11 AP students will read the following book and note at least 20 selections that stand out as particularly well written and/or effective:
Slouching Towards Bethlehem by Joan Didion
AP students should pay close attention to word choice, sentence structure, organization, and tone used in this collection. Our primary approach will include an analysis of the resources of language and creation of rhetoric.
Please arrive to class with a list of your 20 quotes.
Advanced Placement 12
12 AP students will read Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and identify two passages from the novel. Be prepared to discuss the book upon returning to school in the fall.
There is no specific summer reading title for SUPA English 12, OCC or 12 Honors. The choice is yours.
